Stealth Sub enclosure

Original Fx45 Trunk

This is my first attempt at fiberglass stealth subwoofer enclosure.
This image reveals two lift handles; one for the original subwoofer and the other as a storage bin.
I feel I got lucky to have Run Flat Tires hence the extra space

Storage Bin Exposed

This image depicts more of the available storage space. It measures about 33x13x6.5 inches which gave me about 1.6 cubic feet.
This was important to determine the subwoofer dimensions and specifications
Before starting, I protected the entire area with plastic. This is a MUST!!

Fiberglass Mould

I placed 2 layers of foil in the bin then fiberglass followed with resin application. After 2 layers, took the mould out of the trunk.
Same application continued to a total of about 5 layers to better withstand the pressure.

MDF Speaker Mount

I used 3/4 MDF . A jigsaw was used to cut out where I would mount the subwoofer. The diameter here is 12 inches. The board inside the speaker hole is 11 inches in diameter for flush mount.

MDF and Fiberglass Mould

1/4 inch was shaved off the bottom of the MDF to fit exactly into the fiberglass mould
Fiberglass was sanded to fit flush with edge of bin.
Applied liquid nails plus used screws to attach mould to MDF and let is set for 24 hrs

Close Up Speaker Flush Mount

The grille never made it as it rattled a lot. This is an Alpine SWS-1243D chosen primarly due to mounting depth of 5 inches.

Final Touches

With fiberglass mould enclosure attached to MDF, " felt" was applied to enclosure using spray-on glue.

With black interior, it was pretty easy to find matching carpet from local stores. The rest of the matching involved dimensions

The carpet was attached on top with glue but the edges were held together with Staples at the bottom. Always wear eye protection!

Amplifier Mount

With the help of excellent write ups on subwoofer wiring on infinitifx.org, the original sub was removed to make space for an amp.

I fabricated a base for the amp using left over MDF.
To complete the picture carpet was also applied to this.

This is an Alpine MRP-M500. The red main amp wire was run through a gromet on the passenger side the under the carpet. On the left is ground wire. I spliced the original subwoofer wires ( no cutting). The white wire on the right is the speaker wire.

Original space reclaimed

Original trunk space is still available for groceries with this install. Once again thanks to the contributors to the infinitifx.org forum. Without your ideas there is no way I would have attempted this major project!
I owe you guyz on the forum!

Tried this version with cargo mat but it rattled a little, nothing major but being picky I removed it. Surprisingly it did not affect the bass at all!
